Dalston is getting a new bar – and it’s got some serious cred behind it. Berryman’s will open on November 13, and it’s by Max and Noel Venning, the founders of Three Sheets on Kingsland Road and its Soho spinoff (home to one of London’s best Martinis), as well as Crouch End’s Little Mercies. It takes its title from the Vennings’ mother’s maiden name and will riff on the classic bars found in coastal towns around Europe. To that end, it’ll be walk-ins and standing only, with space for just 20 (guests will perch their drinks on oak ledges and the marble bar top). It’s just a couple of doors down from Three Sheets and takes the place of a former coffee shop.
Berryman’s will revolve around Martinis, wine and oysters, with a food menu by Three Sheets head chef Ethan Pack. A rotating selection of Martinis and wines will be on the pour, plus there’ll be a snack that fuses two UK bar staples: crisps and Martinis. The Dirty Martini Crisps will be seasoned in juniper berries, koseret tea, coriander seeds and olive powder that replicates the deep savouriness of the drink.
Oysters will come from Cornwall and dressing options will include strawberry mignonette, gherkin granita, Kashmiri and clementine ponzo and a house-made hot sauce. For something heftier to soak up all those Martinis, there’ll be a short menu of food designed for eating while standing: cheese and cured meat, fior di latte ice-cream, and the Bikini sandwich – a toastie filled with jamon, ‘nduja, manchego and gouda.
The single-floor space is designed by Nothing is Nothing Studio (Don’t Tell Dad, Ria’s, The Waterman’s Arms) and features double-level bronze shelves holding wine and spirits.
Berryman’s opens at 508 Kingsland Road, E8 4AE on November 13.
