It’s taking over The Standard London’s ground-floor bar for a month with its thin-crusted round pies and square Grandma and Veggie pizzas.

Londoners will soon be able to find out if Brooklyn’s Best Pizza lives up to its confident name – it’s popping up here for a month, from August 7. The pizzeria is taking over The Standard London’s ground-floor bar Double Standard, bringing along pizzas that have drawn the likes of Action Bronson and Asap Rocky through its doors.

Best Pizza was founded in 2010 by Frank Pinello, who grew up in a Sicilian family in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn – the NY borough’s little Italy. The pizzeria is in a former bakery, and Pinello uses its century-old woodfired oven to turn out round and square pies, both of which he’ll be serving in London. While full menu details are yet to be revealed, diners can expect Best’s thin-crusted 14- to 16-inch round pies, as well as its crisp-crusted square pizzas – including the Grandma (a Long Island classic topped with mozzarella and tomato) and the Veggie, which is topped with seasonal veg. Fans will have their fingers crossed that other Best staples – like the white pizza (a scattering of caramelised onions and sesame seeds on a white base) make it across the pond.

Pinello is firmly embedded in the global pizza scene – not only does he run two Best Pizzas in Brooklyn, but he’s also launched an outpost in New Jersey and consulted in Qatar, Hong Kong and Toronto. In 2018 did a guest pizza with Yard Sale and he’s also the host of Vice’s The Pizza Show.

Best Pizza will be at Double Standard from August 7–September 13.
