Dishoom is set to debut the Dishoom Loves Market in Shoreditch this month – a two-weekend festival celebrating South Asian makers, performers and culture, held at event space Kachette on Old Street from November 21 to 23 and November 28 to 30.
By day, the Old Street railway arches will transform into a vibrant market, with more than a dozen South Asian designers, artists and small businesses setting up shop. Expect bold handcrafted jewellery from Anisha Parmar Studio, Ayurveda-inspired haircare by Fable & Mane, hand-embroidered homewares from La Jambu and design-led homewares from Tiipoi. Other vendors will include Mauli Rituals, No Borders, Pavan Beauty, Nappa Dori and cult Chiltern Street newsagent, Shreeji.
Dishoom will also bring its own delights, including mithai from the Dishoom Sweet Shop, blooms by Brick Lane florist Studio Tussy, speedy street-food dishes such as pani puri, kathi rolls and chaat, and chai flowing freely throughout the day. Meanwhile, Dishoom’s Permit Room bar and cafe will open from 1pm with lassis, juices and bottled cocktails to take home.
Workshops led by South Asian creatives will run across both weekends; highlights include incense-holder decorating with Mush Studio, tapestry embroidery with Ekta Kaul, jewellery-making with Anisha Parmar and creating henna-decorated baubles with Pavan Ahluwalia Dhanjal.
Dishoom is also hosting Chai Pe Charcha, a programme of intimate conversations exploring topics spanning beauty, identity, representation, fatherhood and South Asian masculinity, featuring speakers including Eshaan Akbar, Sonia Haria, Arunima Ghosh, Aaron Christian and more.
Come nightfall, the market will shift gears with a run of evening events, including Permit Room Lates, featuring vinyl DJs and games of carrom, a Q&A with actor Riz Ahmed and director Aneil Karia on their recently released new film adaptation of Hamlet, the Brown Sauce Comedy Club, and a night of queer South Asian performance curated by Reeta Loi and Nadine Noor.
Dishoom Loves Market will run from November 21 to 23 and November 28 to 30. Free daytime passes available to book now; tickets required for selected events. Walk-ins welcome.
