Hector Henderson, head chef of Arnold Circus beauty Rochelle Canteen, grew up in Covent Garden, moments from Nomad London. From next week he’ll be experiencing something of a homecoming, when Rochelle Canteen launches a residency in the hotel’s grand restaurant Twenty8 Nomad, on October 15. Henderson spent plenty of time nearby growing up – namely at the Pizza Express across the road from the hotel, which was the Bow Street Magistrates’ Court until 2006.
“My favourite place when I was a kid was that Pizza Express across the road from the Nomad,” Henderson tells Broadsheet. “But that was back in the time when Pizza Express was a really good restaurant and you had the same waiter every time you went. I feel quite comfortable going back to that same area.”
The Rochelle Canteen menu will sit alongside Twenty8 Nomad’s menu, which has recently been redeveloped by recently appointed executive chef Carlo Scotto (ex-Xier, Murano and Galvin La Chapelle). Scotto says the coming together of the two venues is “really quite simple. We might be different in cooking method, experience and food profile, but where we really come together is that it’s a kitchen led by produce … having this partnership with Rochelle Canteen, it’s an example of that same direction.”
The menu will change monthly, with the first starring a Rochelle Canteen classic: chicken, leek and tarragon pie. “People seem to request that pie more than anything else,” Henderson says. There’s also the restaurant’s devilled crab on toast, a beetroot salad and a brown sugar tart, “which is a classic from growing up”. When winter hits, expect deep-fried tripe with ketchup, pheasant and mushroom pie, fish pie and a baked goat's cheesecake.
Henderson, Rochelle Canteen’s co-patron and chef Margot Henderson (his mum) and Scotto worked together to build the menu and train the Nomad team to create the dishes. “Me and Margot worked really closely with Carlo in building a nice menu for this month, and we’re changing it each month,” Henderson says. “It’s a pleasure to work with him on this project of beautiful winter food.”
Rochelle Canteen at Twenty8Nomad runs from October 15–January 17, 2027, from 4pm Monday to Saturday.
