In February 2012, 10 Greek Street opened in Soho. It was part of a new wave of semi-casual restaurants that served seasonal dishes for sharing, poured smartly chosen wine, and put provenance and ingredients first – elements that are familiar now, but weren’t a given at the time. Now, 14 years later, the charming neighbourhood restaurant has announced it will close on August 8.
“After 14 incredible years, we wanted to let you know that we’ve decided the time is right for us to move on to new adventures, and we’ll be closing the doors to the restaurant,” said founders Cameron Emirali and Luke Wilson in a statement. “It’s been such a huge part of our lives for so long, and we’re incredibly grateful for all the memories, friendships and good times along the way.”
The pair met while Wilson worked at Liberty Wines and Emirali was on the pans at the landmark restaurant in the Wapping Project. They were reunited at The Zetter hotel and, six years after opening 10 Greek Street, the two founded a brewery, Braybrooke Beer Co, together. In 2014, the duo opened 8 Hoxton Square, which closed four years later.
While 10 Greek Street’s menu changes daily, diners have always been able to rely on a woodfired flatbread topped with anything from lamb to chilli and butter. Other dishes like prawn and scallop ravioli with lemon butter; razor clams with ‘nduja and broad beans; and sweetbreads with peas, artichokes and masala regularly guested on the menu – and these classics from the past 14 years will make appearances in the restaurant’s closing weeks.
The restaurant also became known for its “little black book” of rare bottles of wine bought at auction and sold at little mark-up, which sat alongside another list of well-priced wines by the carafe or bottle. During 10 Greek Street’s final days, guests are invited to help finish off the little black book.
While 10 Greek Street hasn’t announced the reason for its closure, it’s just the latest in a litany of London restaurants to shutter in recent months, including Prawn on the Lawn, Morito and Sambal Shiok.
“We’re excited about what comes next,” said Emirali and Wilson, “but first we’d love to see lots of you over the next few weeks and give the restaurant the send-off it deserves.”
10 Greek Street’s last service is on August 8.
