London’s finance bros will soon have a new lunch spot to visit between brokering deals. Popular Covent Garden Taiwanese noodle bar Kung Fu Mama will open in Canary Wharf in the first quarter of this year. The noodle joint was launched by Noam Bar-Chang (co-founder of Ottolenghi) and Chris Hsu (the founder of Taiwanese noodle chain Shuang Ren Hsu) in April 2025, and has since drawn queues for its take on Taiwanese street food.
Kung Fu Mama’s signature is its hand-folded, sun-dried noodles, which are firm and springy. They come in dishes like chicken with ginger and sesame, 12-hour beef with Sichuan pepper, portobello mushrooms with romano pepper, and beef noodle soup. Bao stuffed with oven-baked chicken, ginger and sesame chicken, and soft-shell crab are also on the menu, alongside desserts traditionally served at Taiwanese night markets: mango shaved ice-cream, and pineapple pie.
“This second opening feels like an important step in putting Taiwanese cuisine more firmly on the UK culinary map,” Bar-Chang said in a statement. In recent years, Taiwanese cuisine has made a mark on London’s dining landscape, with a spike in the popularity of boba tea as well as restaurant groups like Bao. It’s also the latest in slate of great diners that have opened in the city’s financial district in recent years, including Turkish restaurant Nora, Fallow follow-up Roe, and outposts of Hawksmoor and Blacklock.
Kung Fu Mama Canary Wharf will echo the playful aesthetic of the original, with a mural following Hsu’s culinary journey.
“London’s enthusiasm for Taiwanese food has exceeded all our expectations, and we’re excited to bring our contemporary take on these flavours to Canary Wharf,” Bar-Chang said.
Kung Fu Mama opens at 64 Jubilee Place, E14 5NY in the first quarter of 2026.
