Tickets to major musicals, buzzy new plays and hyped upcoming productions have been slashed by up to 50 per cent, with tickets starting from £19.

The first thing to know about London Theatre Week is that it’s not actually a week. The twice-yearly sale tends to run for nearly a month – and this one will last from today (February 16) until Sunday March 8. The second thing to know is that it’s an excellent opportunity to finally lock in a ticket for a show you’ve been meaning to see – or take a chance on something that hasn’t opened yet.

Naturally, the big-hitting musicals are well-covered by the sale, including Wicked, Hamilton, The Lion King, Oliver!, Matilda The Musical and The Producers. You’ll also find tickets to plays that have recently opened, including the multi Tony Award-winning comedy Oh, Mary!, Cole Escola’s huge Broadway hit about Abraham Lincoln’s wife.

Excited by the prospect of seeing Avenue Q’s West End return or the National Theatre’s upcoming production of social-realist writer Maxim Gorky’s Summerfolk? The sale includes shows like these that haven’t opened yet but are bound to become harder to get tickets for once they do. Similarly, there’s the West End transfer in May of 1536, which had rave reviews in its sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre, and Teeth ‘n’ Smiles, the new musical starring Rebecca Lucy Taylor, aka Self Esteem, set to open in March.

Visit the London Theatre Week website for the full list of shows in the sale.

London Theatre Week runs from February 16 to March 8.
