It’ll channel Spanish neighbourhood bars, opening from morning till late night for coffee, bocadillos, wine and tapas.

Harts Group – which is behind spots like Barrafina, El Pastor, Quo Vadis and El Siete – will open Los Primos, a cervecería channelling the vibrant neighbourhood bars found across Spain, in Borough Yards this November. Like its Iberian counterparts, Los Primos will open from the morning (11am) till late at night, with a menu that runs from coffee and churros to wine and tapas. It takes over the site of Harts Group’s Spanish grill restaurant, Parillan, on Dirty Lane, which is currently undergoing a renovation that will see indoor-outdoor counter seating installed and the room filled with hightop tables.

The directors of Harts Group (Sam, James and Eddie Hart, and their cousin Anna Watkins) will draw on summers spent at the Mallorcan home of their grandfather, the artist Vladimir Daskaloff, as well as their time living in Madrid and Barcelona. “We wanted to pay homage to the cervecerías we know and love: a home away from home found in every neighbourhood,” Watkins, who’s the managing director of Barrafina Group, said in a statement.

The bar – which will be walk-in only – will be anchored by a hefty stainless-steel bar, behind which coffee will be poured and fresh churros made. For something a bit harder in the mornings, diners can order a caña (a third of a pint).

Snacks will include kikos (fried salty corn), boquerones (anchovies) and olives, and beer, wine, cider and vermouth will all be on tap. Tapas like gildas, mussels escabeche and ensaladilla rusa (potato salad) will be displayed in glass countertop cabinets, while hot options include calamari, jamon croquetas and chorizo cooked in cider. Guests can pop in for bocadillos filled with the likes of include tortilla, pork loin and chorizo.

“This is a really personal project for us, we have such fond memories of spending long afternoons and evenings at our favourite local haunts so couldn’t help but pay tribute to them,” Sam Hart, the CEO of Harts Group, said in a statement. “Cervecerías in Spain are intergenerational, accessible spaces that won’t break the bank, without compromising on quality.”

Los Primos opens in November at 4 Dirty Lane, SE1 9PA.
