It’s a big spring for Petersham Nurseries, the beloved Richmond nursery, lifestyle shop and Michelin Green Star-recognised restaurant. Not only is this its first year participating in the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, but it’s also launched its first-ever capsule collection, created in collaboration with Italian French outwear brand K-Way and its sister brand Superga.
Given that Petersham Nurseries has been run by the Boglione family since it opened in 2002, it makes sense that this collaboration also came about through family ties, explains Lara Boglione, managing director. “[K-Way] is run by my uncle and cousins, so it feels natural to collaborate now that they’ve come to the UK. We’ve always loved the brand and with a store on the King’s Road, they are just round the corner from Chelsea Flower Show. It felt like the perfect time to come together.”
K-Way started in Paris in 1965 and opened its first London store at 120 King’s Road in February last year. Earlier this month, it opened a second site in Carnaby Street, where customers can find the brand’s signature block-colour waterproof nylon windbreakers, which fold into small pouches.
The capsule collection features a hooded khaki ripstop jacket (available in two lengths) emblazoned with the Petersham Nurseries elephant logo. It’s lightweight, yet waterproof and windproof, making it ideal for gardening (or simply exploring the outdoors). There’s also a pair of moss green wellington boots made in collaboration with Superga, with a sturdy ridged sole for comfort and grip.
Boglione’s favourite item in the collection is the long jacket. “Lots of K-Way’s items are short, but the long jackets are great for wearing in the rain and on muddy walks. It’s in Petersham green: practical but stylish, simple and classic, which resonates with what we do at Petersham Nurseries.”
You might spot people wearing the collection at the Chelsea Flower Show, where Petersham Nurseries is exhibiting for the first time. Head to stand 701 to find The Conservatory, inspired by the nursery’s Richmond glasshouse, complete with the same white-flowered Madagascar jasmine and star jasmine climbing the walls and omitting their calming scent.
