The designer behind some of London’s best-loved dining institutions is always in a bomber jacket, has an indoor plant obsession and gets daily compliments for his aftershave.

Shayne Brady is the founder and creative director of Studio Shayne Brady. Brady – one of London’s most sought-after hospitality designers – has recently completed the high-profile revival of storied dining institution Simpson’s in the Strand. Brady’s design portfolio also boasts global names like The Savoy, Mandarin Oriental and Waldorf Astoria, and he’s delivered projects in far-flung destinations, from Doha to Macau. Plus, he’s behind the reimagining of the ground-floor dining spaces at Belmond’s Cadogan Hotel, as well as Jeremy King’s The Park. Here are 10 things he loves.

Hermes H24 aftershave, from £87

The only scent I wear, and I get complimented on it daily. I'll never change it – it just seems to react perfectly with my skin and it’s my constant go-to.

Tom Ford sunglasses, from £285

I can’t pick just one [style]. I have sunglasses tucked into my t-shirt 365 days a year, forever hopeful of sunshine.

Off-White or Axel Arigato trainers, various prices

Any white trainers, though Off-White and Axel Arigato are my go-to brands.

Alexander McQueen detachable-sleeve bomber jacket, £2309

I’m always in [a bomber]. My latest purchase has a great hood from Entire Studios, but I’ve got my eye on a McQueen one.

Anya Hindmarch 24 Hour Travel Bag, £795

I was kindly gifted a custom, personalised overnight bag by my dear friend Anya, and it’s honestly my favourite item I own. So perfectly designed.

Closca cycling helmet, from £86

I cycle everywhere in London, so safety first! The best bit? It’s collapsible and folds away neatly into my bag for meetings.

DV Studio ring and bracelet, POA

Statement jewellery I love for a special occasion.

Plants from The Nunhead Gardener

I have over 30 indoor plants at home; it’s become a somewhat problematic obsession. The Nunhead Gardener in Elephant and Castle is my closest go-to, just a short trip from my little flat in Waterloo.

Honey & Co feta and honey cheesecake, £10.50

Honey & Co’s feta and honey cheesecake is a cloud of salty-sweet cream cheese and feta on a nest of buttery, golden kadaif pastry, finished with thyme, honey, toasted almonds and fresh fruit. The best.

Victoria & Albert Museum membership, £86 per year

I love going to museums in my spare time and the V&A is one of my favourites because it’s dedicated to design, decorative arts and craft. A membership gets you first dibs entry for some of London’s best exhibitions. I also like wandering through the beautiful space, and the members’ rooms are a quiet retreat, while the exquisite garden is the perfect place for a coffee and catch-up.
