Pick of the Crop: Three Tomato-Infused Cocktails To Try

The rise of tomato cocktails is proof drinkers are savouring the savoury. Hannah Crosbie picks three of her favourites.

Sweet is out. Savoury is in. Long gone are the days when a pitcher of Woo Woo would sort me out for the night. Now, I become aware of the effects sugar has on my body within 10 minutes. If I want my evening to last longer, I need to play it a bit smarter – and savoury.

Tomato-based drinks have been on my radar for a while now. Here are three around town I’ve been sipping.

##Tomato and Elderflower Daisy at Nipperkin, Mayfair “We’ve got a thing for tomatoes,” admits group head of bars Angelos Bafas. At Nipperkin, sip on this Margarita-style cocktail, which blends Bafas’s house-made heirloom tomato vodka with elderflower liqueur, mezcal and vermouth. nijulondon.com/nipperkin

##Flor at Equal Parts, Hackney Tomato is the garnish here rather than the main event. Tomato water is blended with olive oil and fino sherry for a savoury tang. It’s another reason to love the Hackney Road amaro bar by Michael Sager, of Sager & Wilde renown. www.equalpartslondon.com

##Tomatini at La Petite Maison, Mayfair Muddled tomatoes, salt and pepper, three-year-old white balsamic and a couple of cracks from a big and campy pepper mill. Fans include Charli xcx, Harry Styles, Beyoncé – and me. lpmrestaurants.com
