Exercising in infrared heat has become a growing trend – and when Yours studio opened in in Hackney Wick in August, it became the first to offer infrared Pilates in the city. Now, after a successful few months, Yours has opened a second, larger space in Shoreditch.
Yours started in Marbella in 2024, and it now has four locations there. But its two founders are Brits, and it was always their intention to have multiple studios in London. “In Spain we saw a gap in the market to provide class-based concepts for the international community and connect people through fitness, but bringing Yours to London was always in the plan, as it’s our home and infrared is still relatively new to the UK market,” co-founder Oliver Gardner, a former interior designer, tells Broadsheet.
The new stripped-back, art-clad studio on Leonard Street is five minutes from Old Street station – and it’s a location Gardner feels is perfect for the brand. “Once the heartbeat of London’s creative scene, the area has got that buzz again, with new concepts opening up alongside its iconic spots. It’s always evolving,” says Gardner.
The studio offers hot Pilates as well as “sculpt” strength workouts, which make use of weighted equipment, and recovery sessions. The 50-minute sessions take place in a minimalist, industrial studio, which is filled with putty-coloured weights and mats. The gentle red glow of the infrared heats the room to about 35 to 38°C. Classes are taught by instructors from stalwarts like Barry’s and Psycle.
While hot yoga has been common in the city for years, infrared heats the body from within, not just the air around you. The heat works deep into the muscles, which is said to boost circulation and have skin purification benefits, as well as helping to increase flexibility during the classes and aiding faster recovery. The result is a low-impact workout, which leads to what Gardner calls a “deep, detoxifying sweat” – and it's clearly resonating, with some attendees already on a 30-class streak at the Hackney Wick Studio.
After classes, Pilates buffs can congregate at the shake bar at reception, while downstairs there are tranquil, lime-washed changing rooms, as well as a chill-out area with boucle accent chairs and bold slogan artworks.
