The Marylebone hotel has added a vitality pool, Finnish sauna and aromatic steam room to its wellness amenities, along with a comprehensive treatments list.

When someone mentions The Landmark London, it’s usually the building’s palatial glass atrium that springs to mind, flanked by palm trees and often scored by a pianist tinkling out a melody on the glossy grand piano. But as of this summer, its newly renovated spa may yet rival the draw of its elegant glass-roofed courtyard.

The historic Marylebone establishment has joined the growing ranks of London hotels modernising their wellness and spa offerings to meet a rising demand across the capital. No longer just a place to sleep, the city’s roster of luxury hotels are offering day retreats for guests to recharge and reset from the bustle of daily life.

“For the spa transformation, we wanted a fresher, modernised and relaxing spa, while not steering too much from what our guests loved pre-refurbishment. The main focus was to make wellbeing a bigger part of the overall guest experience,” Hida Shuleta, spa manager at The Landmark London, tells Broadsheet.

Its new subterranean spa has been designed with architecture studio Alex Kravetz Design, introducing a sophisticated thermal suite offering heat, relaxation, stimulation and recovery. Dark wood, polished marble accents and softly backlit panels have helped establish the spa’s serene atmosphere, while the vaulted ceiling canopy cleverly calls back to the hotel’s signature glass atrium.

At the heart of the new spa is a serene emerald vitality pool with swan neck hydrotherapy jets; on one side, guests can unwind on a series of heated marble loungers, while on the other resides an aromatic steam room, Finnish sauna and multi-sensory experience showers scented with bamboo and lemongrass.

Down the hallway are five tranquil treatment rooms, including a double suite, where spa guests can choose from a menu spanning facials, massages and detoxifying body treatments that draw from Eastern traditions. “The inspiration behind the new spa was to bring together our owners’ Thai heritage with British influences that reflect our London home,” Shuleta says. Traditional Chinese medicine and Thai healing techniques feature across treatments from British brands Oskia and Ashmira Botanica, with the latter harnessing sound therapy and meridian-based massage for a more holistic approach to relaxation and tension relief.

The Landmark’s spa also offers a set of junior options, including soothing, sleep-inducing treatments for parents and children, as well as targeted skincare for teens.

The spa is open to both hotel and non-hotel guests looking for a moment (or a few hours) of repose. Spa day experiences are available for those wanting to try the new facilities as well as individual treatments, and after passing a few blissful hours in the Landmark’s serene subterranean space, visitors can head upstairs for an afternoon tea or special detox lunch at the Champagne Bar.
